Enjoying the Honeymoon

We've been home 11 days.
I've been told the honeymoon phase of adoption can last anywhere from 1 week to 6 months.
So far, things have been going insanely well.
Almost too well.

I keep having this lingering thought each morning, "Will today be the day?"
The day Mina decides she's sick of this place?
This food?
This language?
This house?
This family?
Will the day come when all she wants is to be back in China?

It was around day 11 for me when I wanted to be back in the US.
The adrenalin had worn off, I was sick of Chinese food, I missed my bed.
I got grouchy, emotional, and just wanted to go home.
I'm trying to prepare myself for that day to come for Mina.

Just the other night she brought me this book and when I got to this page, I found myself choking over the words...

Regardless of if or when the honeymoon ends, I will continue to thank God each and every day for His abundance of blessings on my life. For picking us, out of all the parents in the world, to be Mina's mom and dad.

Daniel and I find ourselves saying, "I can't believe she's OURS!"
She's so perfect.
From her fierce cowlick to her never-ending drool to her wrinkly belly button that she's so obsessed with...

I mean, honestly, Miss Aubrey is a pretty tough act to follow in the offspring department...

And while our little princess has tried her best to introduce Mina to the world of fairy-tale royalty, little sister is not one bit interested...
(Hey Christy, notice that blur of a crown? Aubrey's thrilled she gets to have the Aurora AND Cinderella crown now...;))

Instead, Miss Mina would rather pester Aubrey and run off in a squeal of giggles...

Thankfully, Aubrey's managed to restrain her retaliation, but I'm wondering if it's just a matter of time before she snaps...

Luckily, we've discovered that redirection works with Mina.
Particularly with books.

Despite the fact that there's always a meal/snack to make, a nose to wipe, a diaper to change, a mess to clean, a fight to referee, laundry to fold, an errand to run, etc. I'm thoroughly enjoying our little family honeymoon.

I know there will be bumps along the road, there will be seasons of less-than-wonderful, but I'm savoring these precious days.

So, until next time...
Bye-bye!

Here's a little Jammy Dance Party from this morning...
(Disregard the mess, we had invited all the stuffed animals to the party...)

  1. I played the video while M was playing in the other room with his cars and I looked over in the middle of it to catch him doing his own little dance. :) And I'm glad to see shirts are optional at your house too. Moo will be so excited to dance AND not have to wear clothes! Something I can only say when they're babies. :) Can't wait for April!
