Glad It's Over!

So, we didn’t leave our power cord in Nanchang.
We had packed it all along.
Good grief.

Anyway…

We’re here in Guangzhou, and boy is it a sight for sore eyes!
Nanchang was great, don’t get me wrong, but it was definitely “grittier” than here.
Also, there are TONS of adopting families in Guangzhou since this is where all the Visas are issued for kids to enter the US.

In Nanchang, we never saw a non-Asian person when we were out sightseeing or going to the market. Here we’re surrounded by a bunch of white people with Chinese kids. :) We’re all fumbling around trying to keep meltdowns to a minimum, getting kiddos to eat and all the while exchanging currency/taking pictures/listening to our broken-English speaking guides give us our “next steps”/and trying to keep with the gazillion documents we need for the next appointment. Basically, we’re a walking human zoo exhibit.

Today we had Mina’s medical appointment.
With the Chinese New Year closing in, there’s been an even greater surge of families trying to get back home with their little Chinese blessings. The clinic was PACKED. Lots of waiting. Lots of lines. Lots of crying babies. Mina had a general health screening: weight/height, full body exam, ENT check and then the blood work. We found out minutes before the blood work that we would not be allowed to go back with her. It was going to be hard enough holding her while they drew blood, but knowing they would be prying her out of my arms to stick her with a needle without me there to comfort her sent me over the edge. I could hear her behind the door screaming for me. As if this poor child hasn't suffered enough trauma over the past 5 days! My heart still aches just thinking about it.

We did get her official stats:
Weight: 22 lbs. (10-25%)
Height: 29.5 inches (below 5%)
Head circumference: 18.5 cm (50-75%).
She's pretty tiny with a good size melon. :)
This picture is a pretty good representation of her size.
(sorry it's grainy...phone pic.)

We're glad today is done.
Now we basically just get through the days until her Visa is ready.
I'm sure we'll find plenty to do...
